Parts of the House

Aligned with basic English communication skills for describing the parts of the house.

Learning Objective:

Students will be able to identify, understand, and correctly use vocabulary related to the parts of the house in spoken and written English.

(Measurable & aligned to learning plan and activities.)

Problem Anticipation

Some students may struggle with pronunciation and associating written words with their meanings. Visual aids, interactive activities, and repetition will reinforce learning.

Vocabulary:

Materials Required:

·        Brick words: House, Bedroom, Kitchen, Living room, Bathroom, Garden

 

Warm up: Introduction/Background Information (Why are we learning this, what does my student already know, what can we look forward to learning about in this lesson?)

 

Presentation: How to show the topic, vocabulary or grammar point. This is the theoretical stage

Warm up: (10 min)

·        The teacher will show pictures of different parts of a house and ask students if they recognize any words in English.

·        Students will mention, in Spanish, the rooms they have in their house and make connections to English vocabulary.

·        A short educational video about a house and its rooms will be played.

 

Presentation: (15 min)

  • The teacher will show flashcards with pictures of house parts and say each name aloud.
  • Students will repeat the words in chorus to practice pronunciation.
  • Word labels will be placed on the board, and students will help match them to the correct house part.

 

Main Activities (25 min)

Activity 1: exposition of the parts of the house (20 minutos)

·       Students will participate individually and in pairs to present the parts of the house and thus strengthen their speaking and writing skills in front of all their classmates.

·       Let's sing and play in English activity: Students sing in English the songs about the parts of the house.

Closure: (10 min)

Activity 2:  Draw your favorite place in your house (15 min)

  • The teacher explains the activity through a drawing of his or her favorite place in the house and then the students will do the same by drawing their favorite place where they live and will write its name in English.

To enable students to identify, understand, and correctly use vocabulary related to body parts in spoken and written English.

(Measurable & aligned to learning plan and activities.)

Problem Anticipation

Some students might struggle with vocabulary and pronunciation. Visual aids and guided practice will help address these challenges.

Vocabulary:

Materials Required:

·        Brick words: Head, nose, eyes, hair, hands, foot.

 

 

Warm up: Introduction/Background Information (Why are we learning this, what does my student already know, what can we look forward to learning about in this lesson?)

 

Presentation: How to show the topic, vocabulary or grammar point. This is the theoretical stage

Warm up: (10 min)

·        The teacher will play the song “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” and encourage students to sing along while performing the corresponding movements.

·        After the song, the teacher will display a large body chart and ask students to identify and name different body parts.

·        To reinforce learning, students will match written words (e.g., “elbow,” “knee”) to the correct body part on the chart.

 

Presentation: (15 min)

  • The teacher will show flashcards with pictures of the parts of the body and say each name aloud.
  • Students will repeat the words in chorus to practice pronunciation.
  • Word labels will be placed on the board, and students will help match them to the correct house part.

Main Activities (25 min)

Activity 1: Simon Says (Listening & Movement)

  • The teacher will lead a game of Simon Says, giving commands such as “Touch your nose” or “Point to your elbows.”
  • Students must listen carefully and follow the instructions only when the teacher says "Simon says..."
  • To increase difficulty, the teacher will introduce full sentences (e.g., "Simon says: My eyes help me see!").

Closure: (10 min)

Activity: Partner Quiz (Speaking & Interaction)

  • Students will work in pairs, pointing to a body part and asking, “What is this?”
  • Their partner must respond in English using complete sentences (e.g., "This is my shoulder.").
  • The teacher will monitor and provide feedback on pronunciation and sentence structure.
